ICRAV 2010: ‘Protecting the Integrity of Racing’
The ICRAV 2010 Conference will be held at the Millennium Hotel, Queenstown, New Zealand, 7th -13th March 2010. Attending delegates are typically senior laboratory management and research scientists from racing laboratories, together with the regulatory veterinarians of the world's racing bodies. Information exchanged enables participants to better direct scientific effort and make recommendations to racing authorities.
Horse and greyhound racing is a multi-billion dollar industry taking place in more than 70 countries throughout the world. Administrators and scientists associated with this industry have common goals to ensure the welfare of animal athletes and maintain the integrity of the sport. A large part of this effort is focused on doping control to prevent the misuse of medications and other substances that may affect the performance and health of racing animals.
What is ICRAV?
ICRAV is conducted by two non-profit making organisations, the Association of Official Racing Chemists (AORC) and the International Group of Specialist Racing Veterinarians (IGSRV) whose charters are to provide scientific support to the world’s racing authorities. Members of these professional bodies regard ICRAV as an essential forum for addressing analytical and veterinary issues common to racing jurisdictions worldwide.Previous conferences have been held in Turkey(2008), Japan(2006), Dubai(2004), Florida(2002), England(2000), British Colombia(1998), Australia(1996), Sweden(1994), Louisiana(1992), South Africa(1990), Kentucky(1988) and Hong Kong(1985). The New Zealand Conference in March 2010 will again afford an invaluable opportunity for scientific discussion, encouraging international harmonisation and co-ordinated research.
